INWOLE

The association INWOLE (Association for innovative forms of housing and living) has been active for almost 20 years in the fields of adult education, education for sustainable development, political and youth education, and currently implements about 50 projects of various size every year.

INWOLE was established as a project-work-based educational association of the cooperative housing project Project House Potsdam-Babelsberg (in Potsdam, Germany), at whose compound is still based, and where it runs its own seminar and working space with accommodation, seminar rooms and various training facilities such as carpentry, pottery, blacksmith, textile, bakery, bicycle repair and recycling workshops. Existing infrastructure enables us to implement diverse types of projects and educational programmes with various target groups, such as schools and kindergartens, adults from various social groups, migrants, refugees, unemployed etc.

Beside this, INWOLE supports various political, social, cultural and ecological groups, initiatives and individuals from region of Berlin-Brandenburg and beyond by providing space, technology, infrastructure, know-how and advice on collective activities.

Main focuses of INWOLE are political education and education for sustainable development, which include variety of topics, such as self-organization, self-management, cooperative forms of housing and living, development of local solutions in fields of solidary economy and sustainable development, anti-racist education etc. Educational concept of INWOLE is based on transdisciplinary and participatory approach, which connects practical and theoretical knowledge with development of social, emotional and intercultural skills, all under the motto “learning with head, hand and heart“.

Inwole is officially licenced and recognized by the Ministry of education of the province of Brandenburg both as youth educational station (since 2013) and adult educational facility (since 2019). Since 2022 is also an accredited institution for mobilities in the field of adult education within Erasmus+ Programme.

Additionally, Inwole is a member of various networks and committees, such as Regional network for adult education, Regional network for political and cultural education, Regional working group for education for sustainable development of Brandenburg, Federal network of open access workshops and working facilities and various local and regional initiatives and networks. It sustains a wide network of partner groups, both at local and regional, as well as international level.

There are approx. 800-1000 individuals participating in the activities of Inwole per year, as learners or participants in courses, workshops, lectures, seminars, job shadowings and other activities.

The Project House Potsdam-Babelsberg, where Inwole implements its activities, is one of the well known cooperative housing projects in the region of Berlin-Brandenburg, which plays a significant role in the development and promotion of various models of social cooperation and housing. Inwole and Project House has an advisory capacity and is providing counseling to various communities that are developing social spaces and co-housing projects in this area of Germany, as well as in other countries (Greece, Czech republic etc.) supporting their legal establishment, financial development and governance of cooperative economies as well as on social and group development processes.
